Pros and cons

Pros  Cons
Affordable: Considered an excellent budget choice, especially for those upgrading from an ISP-supplied router. Basic features: Both versions lack advanced functionality compared to higher-end routers.
Dual-band integration: Can combine the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks under a single Wi-Fi name for easier connections. No Wi-Fi 6 support: Only supports the older 802.11ac standard (Wi-Fi 5).
Mi Wi-Fi app: The router can be managed remotely via the companion mobile app (Android and iOS). Limited port speed (Standard Edition): The standard version's 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports will bottleneck wired gigabit connections.
OpenWrt compatible (Gigabit Edition): Advanced users can install OpenWrt firmware on the Gigabit version for more customization. Inconsistent 2.4 GHz performance: Some reviewers note that the 2.4 GHz band can be unreliable.
Eco-friendly: The casing and packaging are made from recyclable materials. No USB port: Lacks a port for connecting external storage or printers.

Setup and usage

  2. Initial connection: Connect to the default, unsecured Mi Wi-Fi network shown on the router's base via a phone or computer.

  4. Configure settings: Follow the on-screen prompts to set your Wi-Fi name and password, and enter your internet service provider (ISP) credentials if required.
  5. Use the Mi Wi-Fi app: Download the app for additional features and remote management of the router.
